The IWMW event series:
- Was launched in 1997 at Kings College London.
- Was delivered by UKOLN, a Jisc-funded organisation until 2013.
- Following the cessation of Jisc funding, members of the web management community made it clear that the event should seek to continue.
- The IWMW 2014 event was organised jointly between UK Web Focus Ltd. and Jisc Netskills.
- Since IWMW 2015 the event has been delivered by UK Web Focus Ltd, together with the host institution: Edge Hill University in 2015; Liverpool John Moores University in 2016; the University of Kent in 2017; the University of York in 2018 and the University of Greenwich in 2019.
