Social Activities

Details of social activities at IWMW 2019 are given below:

The dress code for all events is informal (Breton stripes for cruise optional!)

Barbecue

The barbecue on the first night gives delegates the opportunity to relax and chat to colleagues in the informal setting of the grounds of the Dreadnought Building.

There will be a (very informal!) drinks reception at 7.00pm with food being served at 7.30pm. The barbecue will wind up at 9.00pm after which delegates are welcome to explore the area including the Thames Path or the Cutty Sark (cost of admission not included).

Local pubs

Suggested pubs for visiting afterwards are the Lower Deck (Students Union bar, next to barbecue); Kings Arms (traditional pub with beer garden, also nearby) or the Sail Loft (large pub on river with nice views – go to Cutty Sark and go to the left along riverside walk).

Team challenge: photo scavenger hunt

If you’re keen to explore Greenwich, there will be a photo scavenger hunt starting at the barbecue and lasting until Wednesday evening.

The photo scavenger hunt is a chance to explore the local area and get to know your fellow delegates by taking silly pictures!

You’ll be given a list of places, things and actions to take pictures of around Greenwich. Each picture is worth points, and the team that scores the most points wins a prize.

You can pick up the list of items to photograph at the barbecue from Advisory Group member Lauren Tormey.

River Cruise

As we are in Greenwich it would be rude not to include a boat trip at some point and so this year the conference dinner will take place… wait for it… on a boat!

Enjoy the London waterfront from the “Peace”

Our dinner cruise, on the good ship Peace, will depart the Greenwich pier at 7.30pm and will return for 10.30pm.

Guests will have a drink on arrival and then a three course dinner. There is also a bar on board. both cash and card, all types including American Express.

There will be a quiz and a chance to take in the sights and sounds of the Thames as we cruise along the capital’s glorious river.

(Breton stripes optional!)

The menu is shown below (sorry, only available as an image). The chef is adjusting this menu for dietary requirements we have been informed of, including vegans.

Meetup on Monday 24 June

We have booked out a large room in the Kings Arms, a pub near the university, from 6pm where delegates arriving on 24 June will be able to arrive in their own time, meet friends old and new and grab a bite to eat and a drink.

The address is 16 King William Walk, Greenwich, London, SE10 9JH

There will be a quiz on the tables for you to have a go at with prizes for the winning teams, so get thinking of a great team name now!

We will also bring along delegate badges and other items to save you having to queue at registration in the morning.

Conference run

For delegates who enjoy a bit of exercise, there will be a 4.25k run through Greenwich Park and along the Thames on Wednesday morning, 7am.

Full details on the run are on the IWMW blog.

Other Social Activities

We love giving away prizes and so, as well as the quizzes and challenges, we will be looking for opportunities to reward delegates for things we just really like! So think ‘top tweet’, ‘best instagram pic’, ‘best Breton top’ and so on!
