Institutional digital teams are increasingly being asked to devolve day-to-day decision-making and control to faculties and departments. Doing so without a strong, functioning system of governance, however, can be a recipe for disaster.

From ownership issues to legal ones, Gareth Edwards used his IWMW 2017 plenary talk to explore some of the common problems with devolving digital management to local users, including how to design and implement a pragmatic system of governance that can help overcome them.
